Vale Vazgen Panosian

 VALE VAZGEN PANOSIAN

Vazgen Panosia, front right, loved our game and played it with grace.
A true gentleman.

78 year old Vazgen arrived in Australia in 1984 but didn’t make it to Sydney Backgammoners until 2022. Once he discovered the club he never missed a night, either at Castle Hill on Monday nights or North Ryde on Wednesday nights.

Vazgen was runner up in the 2023 NSW Backgammon Open and was looking forward to this year’s open but departed this earth, peacefully in his sleep, last Friday morning.

The quiet, unassuming, gentle soul leaves behind his wife, three daughters and ten grandchildren all of whom he was extremely proud.

When offered the cube he’d accept with a “why not” but when I made a silly move the comment was often “but why”?

He was indeed a man of few words, but loyal, sincere and supportive.

May he Rest in Peace.

Wednesday June 12th 2024

 We had 27 players tonight.

Gary returned to the saddle after a few weeks absence due to illness. Sporting his Sherriff's badge he officially anointed Dilhun Akpinar as Deputy Sherriff and pinned him with his Deputy badge.

Gary was also the drawn jackpot but his dreams were quashed (let alone squashed) by Sean Ghodsi who went on to win the night.

Giantslayer Penman managed to slay Ladder Leader Jim Bean and extract 203 points from him.
