Wednesday February 20

A nice even dozen turned up to play tonight, including three new players – welcome Taaed Athari, Parviz Sheidal and Albert Erfan.

The giant-slayer was redrawn and now Gary Stavrou will attempt to take Arthur Ramer's points from him.

Gary was also drawn as the jackpot player but was unable to bring it home on this occasion.

The final placings were – John Symon in 1stplace, with Arthur and Taaed sharing joint 2nd.

If you have not already done so, please mark April 7 in your diary and joint us for the Sydney Open at the Canada Bay Club.

See you all next week !!

Wednesday February 13

This week a very respectable total of eleven players rocked up to play, including yet another new player, Mahnaz Rostami - this time a  lady, which is fabulous – we need more females!!

The first order of business was to pick the February giantslayer who will take on Arthur Ramer and attempt to wrest his points from him. Grayham Rundle, one of our newest recruits was drawn.

Giancarlo Yannoulis was selected as the jackpot player, but his first match with Carol Wakelin dented his aspirations and he was unable to capitalise on the opportunity.

The final placing were:

Carol Wakelin first, David Layman second and John Symon third.

Wednesday February 6

A very robust band of ten players fronted up for tonight's competition, including one new
member - welcome Grayham Rundle!

Gary Stavrou returned from “sick leave” to take back the tournament reins, and managed to draw himself as the jackpot player in the process. This proved to be a very serendipitous draw, as Gary ended up winning the night and the very healthy $66 jackpot as well.

Jim Bean picked up 2nd prize, and for the 2nd week in a row, we had a tie for third with Carol Wakelin and Arthur Ramer splitting the money.

Please put April 7th in your diary  and come along to The Sydney Open Backgammon Tournament at the Canada Bay Club – it promises to be a very good day!

Look forward to seeing all of you next week – bring your friends along as well – growth is good!!

Wednesday January 30

A very select little bunch of seven gathered to battle on the boards tonight.

With Gary laid low with the flu, Carol Wakelin took on the tournament director role again, and after a minor skirmish with the club wifi we were off and running.

David Reitzin was drawn as the jackpot player, and after definitive victory in his first match with TD Carol, looked like a valid contender  for the pot, however a later match with Eva skittled his chances.

Matches proceeded at a cracking pace and we were all done and dusted just after 10pm with Eva Bitel claiming first prize and Richard Jedrychowski and David Layman coming equal 2nd.
