Wednesday July 25

A tidy little group of 8 took to the tables last night for a spirited tournament.

Richard J scored the jackpot draw but was unable to capitalise on this, being scuttled in the last round by John S.

The new format means that we all get four rounds to 6 points – lots of play for all players with very little waiting time, although Jim did managed to sneak in a nap between games!!

Final placing were :

1st John S (again!)

2nd Gary S

3rd Jim B- our current overall Ladder Leader, who will be challenged by our August Giantslayer
(see our Ladder and Challenges page)

A good night was had by all!!

JULY 15 2018

This year’s NSW open was run, for the first time, by the  Sydney Backgammoners at the North Ryde RSL....and a great day was had by all !!

33 players fronted up to play in a modified Swiss tournament , which would have guaranteed all players five 7-point matches if  ALL players had stayed until the end .…

14 of those players entered the optional value-added bonus pool with the total value of the “pot” going to go to the participating player who finished highest up the ladder at the end of the day – even if that player was not the overall  tournament winner.

Play started on time at 9.30 and there were no matches that went over time. Gary's devotion to trialling various time periods paid off and no players were penalised for exceeding the time limit OR for arriving late for their games – well done all .

After two matches we broke for lunch, resuming at 1.45 for the remaining 3 matches.

Martin Sagradian was the ultimate tournament winner with 521 points,  claiming the both the  $900 prize AND the $1400 bonus pool

Peter Brown , with 416 points, took 2ndplace .

George Avramides, in 3rd  was very close behind with 414 points.

John Symon took 4thspot with 411 points .

Congratulations to all our winners , and indeed to all who took part .

Wednesday July 11th

A great turn up for a state of origin night – 11 players hit the boards tonight!!

Welcome to Alex I and Linda P – both first timers at North Ryde – and both finished in the final 3 – Linda  taking runner up status and Alex scooping up 3rd place.

Jim B was the jackpot player and took away the night and our first jackpot – well done Jim.

Only 3 more sleeps till the Open – looking  forward to a good rollup and a wonderful day !!

Jim managed to hide from my camera last night – the photo is from a previous evening

Wednesday July 4th

A grand turnup tonight – 11 players arrived to do battle – welcome to Greg, a newcomer to our group.

4 rounds of 5 points meant that just about all players were fully occupied for over four hours – 11 players also means that one player in each round has a bye and an opportunity to study the play of their upcoming opposition, which could be advantageous!!

Jim B was drawn as the jackpot player but his aspirations to be our 1st victor in the jackpot were scuttled early by Arthur R in the first round.

The jackpot now stands at $27

Sam K scooped 1st place, with Eva B taking 2nd and Arthur R the 3rd.  Congratulations to all.

Next week sees our last club night before the NSW Open – looking forward to practice before we venture into the “Big Time”for this year.

Wednesday 27 June

Apologies to all for the lateness of this weeks report – the internet gremlins have conspired against me !!

This week eight happy rollers convened to do battle in the darts room in our 2nd trial of the new Swiss system – which, I must say, went more smoothly than last week with all matches bar one being completed in the required time, and the one that was over was only just outside the time constraint.

Sam K was the jackpot player but his plans were scuttled by John S in the 3rd round – the $16 jackpot pool goes on to next week.

The final match between John S and Mohammad N was very tense, with John claiming top spot with 413 points for the night.

The NSW Open is now less than 3 weeks away  !!!
Eva B and John S ... very serious stuff!!
