Our club hosted the Sydney Open on Sunday June 15th at the North Ryde RSL. We were upgraded to the Grand Pittwater Room upstairs which was more pleasant than our usual downstairs room.
45 players turned up which is a very healthy number. Thank you for participating.
Unfortunately the RSL won't allow players in before 10am making it a challenge to run two 9-point matches before lunch; but we managed. To facilitate this we will in future reduce the clock bank to 90 seconds per point. This is in keeping with Australian Championship practice.
The new format of a consolation tournament for players with two losses proved popular, affording all players a minimum of three matches for their $50 entry; great value.
We tried having two separate side pools of $50 and $100. The $100 proved to be far more popular and in future we will dispense with the $50.
The winner of the day, and the 2025 Sydney champion was Ben Phillips.
Jeremy Whitelaw was the Runner-up.
3rd Place went to Martin Sagradian
The winner of the consolation flight was Carol Wakelin and the Runner-up was John Milston
